ELIZABETH CHALLINOR

Anthropologist
With an academic background in Languages, Literature and Anthropology, she has always been keen to cross disciplines and geographical areas: she worked for the Portuguese NGO OIKOS in Angola in the early nineties and conducted anthropological fieldwork in Cape Verde on local associations and development in the late nineties. Her more recent research interests are on mothering and mobility in Cape Verde and Portugal.

FRANCISCO FREIRE

Anthropologist and Researcher on Maghrebian Matters (Azimute Research Group)
Anthropologist, Francisco Freire has developed his research among the Arabophone communities of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. He presently coordinates CapSahara, a four year research project funded by the European Research Council and hosted by CRIA-FCSH/NOVA, reflecting on the political and social changes experienced in the wide western Saharan region.

 

SOFIA LORENA

Journalist
Sofia Lorena was born in Lisbon in 1979. Reporter, she works for Público newspaper since 2001. She witnessed conflicts and revolutions, has written about religion or politics, victims, survivors, art in times of war. She won Prémio Gazeta with a series of stories in Iraq (2010) and was a finalist of Prémio Gabriel García Marquez with stories in Syria and Syrians in Jordan and Turkey (2013).
