A jovem Iva de 17 anos está a tentar interiorizar a morte da mãe. Influenciada por esta profunda perda pessoal e pela descoberta de que não sabia tudo sobre a mãe, a rapariga mergulha lentamente num estranho mundo de quase sonho, longe da realidade.
Seventeen-year-old Iva is in the process of coming to terms with the death of her mother. Influenced by this deep personal loss and by the discovery that she didn’t know everything about her mum, the girl slowly immerses herself into a strange, almost dreamlike world far from reality.

Nota de intenções Director’s Statement HISTORY OF LOVE is an elegiac tableau of a family dealing with the loss of the mother in the light of the new discovery about her. We witness a struggle of people that are left behind, people who don't know how to share their loss and connect to each other in their almost physical pain; people who almost become nothing more than “bodies" of grief. Until something is sacrificed and the family is able to reconnect. In my first film "The Tree" I was exploring the theme of imprisonment or confinement in three different forms: physical, within a system, and in our own feelings of guilt - all through one story about a blood feud. In History of Love I venture away from a kind of a commentary on a social issue into an intimate tale of Iva and her family. But the urge to explore the characters’ inability to connect with each other in the worst moments of their lives still derives from a reflection on the society: currently prevalent nihilism, violence and emotional detachment.
