Nesta masterclass, a cineasta egípcia Nada Riyadh partilha a criação de “The Brink of Dreams”, fruto da colaboração com uma companhia de teatro feminina numa vila egípcia. Reflecte sobre como o processo cinematográfico se tornou um meio de expressão e descoberta, tanto para as jovens envolvidas, como para a equipa. Através de anos de filmagem e construção de confiança, a masterclass mostra como a arte pode fortalecer
a resiliência, estimular o autoconhecimento e desafiar o patriarcado. Da vida na vila
ao palco de Cannes, Nada Riyadh revela como a narrativa colectiva não se limita a documentar: também pode transformar a realidade.
In this masterclass, Egyptian filmmaker Nada Riyadh shares the journey of making The Brink of Dreams, a film born out of collaboration with an all female theatre troupe in an Egyptian village. Riyadh reflects on how the filmmaking process itself became a form of communication — giving the young women the space to explore and articulate their reality and dreams and informing the filmmakers about the film’s cinematic language. From the first encounters to the long years of filming and trust-building, the masterclass explores how art can nurture resilience, self-discovery, and resistance against patriarchal constraints, and how cinema can offer agency to those often denied a voice. Tracing the path from the intimacy of village life to the international stage at Cannes, Riyadh reveals how collective storytelling not only documents reality but also creates new possibilities for it.
