Leyla é uma enfermeira obcecada com o seu peso. Maltratada pelo marido que a despreza e a odeia, e incapaz de enfrentar o perigo em que vive, ela convence-se que perdendo peso poderá salvar o seu casamento.
Kerem é um revolucionário em greve de fome. A sua condição física leva as autoridades a interná-lo no hospital em que Leyla trabalha. Intrigados um pelo outro, aos poucos tornam-se amigos. Sensibilizado pela dor de Leyla, Kerem conta-lhe a história duma gaivota que queria mudar o mundo e tentava voar mais alto. A amizade que desenvolvem e a história de liberdade e poder que ele lhe conta mudam a vida de Leyla.
Leyla is a nurse obsessed with her own weight. Abused by a husband who despises her and hates her and unable to face the danger of her situation, she convinces herself to lose weight in order to save her marriage.
Kerem is a revolutionist on hunger strike. His physical condition compels the authorities to take him to a hospital, where Leyla works. Puzzled by each other, little by little they become close friends. Touched by Leyla’s pain, Kerem tells her a fairytale about a seagull that wants to change the world and tries to fly higher. Their companionship and his stories of freedom and power will change Leyla’s life for ever.
