Director’s Statement
‘Mefite’ was born from my personal desire to address a topic that is very important to me: the complex relationship between humans and nature, and the disruption to the balance of ecosystems. This has led to the climate crisis that we are currently experiencing. In the evocative and windy Ansanto Valley, this problem is particularly evident and is reflected in the controversial link between the depopulation of the Irpinia region and the invasive presence of countless wind turbines, which are the result of speculation. The relationship between Vito, the Mefite spring and the wind turbines inspired me to imagine a story that mixes reality and magic, which can stimulate the audience’s reflection, starting with visual suggestions and a change of perspective. Every environmentalist struggle begins with a first spark. This short film does not aim to explain or provide answers to the topic, but rather to be that initial spark.
