Ser activista de direitos humanos ou trabalhador em ONGs na Palestina é extremamente arriscado. Em 2021, Israel designou seis grandes ONGs palestinianas como organizações terroristas, sem apresentar provas. Directores e colaboradores foram presos ou perseguidos. Shrinking Space explora o que se passava antes de 7 de Outubro de 2023, revelando como Israel trabalhou, sistematicamente, para desmantelar a sociedade civil palestiniana.

Director’s Statement
Mass graves, displaced families, injured children… Over the past two years, we have been overwhelmed by harrowing images capturing the profound human and infrastructural toll of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Palestine. With Shrinking Space, we offer the opportunity to look back to 2023—just before the current escalation began—to understand the challenges faced by Palestinian civil society and social movements. The filming process was as intense as you might imagine. One of our protagonists, Tahreer Jabeer was terrified of being arrested. As part of this ongoing persecution, Tahreer was in fact imprisoned by Israeli occupation forces in September 2024 under administrative detention, with no formal charges. She was released in January 2025 as part of the ceasefire hostage and prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas. Thank you for amplifying the voices of these extraordinarily resilient Palestinian activists, who fight for their rights under the most extreme conditions.
