Álvaro sente-se infeliz no talho do pai. Ele quer ser vegano, mas não tem coragem de contar isso ao pai, que deseja que o filho continue com o seu negócio. Secretamente, Álvaro faz e vende hambúrgueres veganos. Quando o pai recebe uma reclamação e pede explicações ao filho, algo inesperado acontece.

Álvaro is unhappy working at his father’s butcher shop. He wants to be vegan but doesn’t have the courage to tell his father who wants to pass the business on to him. He secretly makes and sells vegan burgers. When his father receives a complaint about the burgers and asks for an explanation from Álvaro, something unexpected happens.

Nota da realizadora Director’s Statement
Bégan is a comedy that addresses a father-son relationship, with the intention of portraying a generic episode that explores discordant personalities within the family context. The premise of the story is that Álvaro wants to be vegan but works at his father butcher’s shop, with the aggravating of this desire being incompatible with the father’s will that the business pass on to his son. This film seeks to awaken a set of sensory and visual inter- pretations, using a photography based on the colors red and green, which represent meat and veganism, respectively, and natural light. As director, I intend to portray, as a tale, the confrontation of a traditional family with modernity. And so, point out how human relationships are the solution to most adversities.

Um carro dirige-se para uma aldeia marroquina. Nele, Maïne e a família acompanham o caixão do pai. No dia seguinte, os homens vão enterrá-lo e as mulheres vão esperar em casa. Mas a jovem Maïne não está de acordo com isso e pretende acompanhar o pai ao seu local de descanso final.

A car drives to a Moroccan village. On board, Maïne and her family surround their father’s coffin. Tomorrow, the men will bury him and the women will wait at home. But young Maïne does not agree with this and intends to accompany her father to his final resting place.

Com o maior tempo em casa e o menor contacto social, dei por mim a reflectir sobre a minha vida no geral. Foi então que me pus a pensar sobre o que mais afecta a minha vida: o Distúrbio de Personalidade Borderline.”

“Borderline arose from the need to adapt the work of creating a documentary to the period of lockdown that we experienced in 2020. With more time at home and less social contact, I found myself reflecting on my life in general. It was then that I started to think about what most affects my life: Borderline Personality Disorder.”

Um local de trabalho distópico num estaleiro. A proibição do contacto físico transformou a interacção humana em simulações surreais. A supressão do toque distanciou a comunicação entre os trabalhadores, transformando o estaleiro numa paisagem carregada de alienação e sensualidade reprimida.

A dystopian workplace at a shipyard. A ban on physical contact has turned human interaction into otherworldly simulations. The suppression of touch has alienated the workers’ communication, transforming the boatyard into a charged landscape of alienation and repressed sensuality.

Uma empregada de mesa segue a sua rotina diária servindo café enquanto pensa em escapar da sua realidade. Um cliente está constantemente a gravar e a ouvir os sons do café, completamente concentrado nessa tarefa. A apatia é uma condição que leva à estagnação da consciência, mas algum deles se aperceberá de que são, eles próprios, exemplos dessa condição?

A waitress goes about her daily routine serving coffee whilst having thoughts of escaping her reality. A customer is constantly recording and listening back to the surrounding sounds of the café, completely focussed on this task. Apathy is a condition that leads consciousness into stagnation, but do either of them realise that they are themselves examples of this condition?

Ruben e Asïr, dois grandes amigos, encontram-se todas as tardes para jogar futebol num parque de carros para sucata. Num dia como qualquer outro, Ruben espera pelo amigo, apercebendo-se com surpresa que o mesmo foi agredido. O apoio incondicional que Rubén oferece a Asïr reflete a mais pura das amizades, embora o pior ainda esteja por vir.

Ruben and Asïr, two great friends, meet every afternoon to play soccer in a car scrapyard. One day like any other, Ruben waits for his friend, and discovers with surprise that he has been beaten up. The unconditional support that Rubén offers to Asïr reflects the purest friendship, although the worst is yet to come.

Num Verão seco, Oriol muda-se para a casa de campo onde mora a mãe para cuidar dela após um surto psicótico. O receio de uma possível recaída surge com a chegada de uma forte tempestade, questionando os papéis até então estabelecidos.

In a dry summer, Oriol moves to the country house where his mother Nuria lives, to take care of her after having a psychotic breakdown. The fear of a possible relapse appears with the arrival of a severe storm, questioning the roles that had been established until then.

Este filme híbrido leva-nos numa viagem a um mundo sem homens, onde as mulheres escolhem a imagem que as representará depois de morrerem. A autora questiona silenciosamente: “Qual é a sensação de ter uma árvore genealógica composta apenas por mulheres? O que sussurram as nossas antepassadas nos seus retratos silenciosos?”

This hybrid film takes us on a journey into a world without men, where women choose the image that will represent them after they are gone. The author silently questions: “How does it feel to have a family tree consisting only of women? What do our ancestors whisper from their silent portraits?”

Nota da Realizadora Director’s Statement
I grew up in a family consisting only of female members; by this I mean not just the basic family core, but a much broader women-tribe. Men gradually disappeared, most as sailor at the sea, some were escaped from, and some died young. So that’s how I got to grow up in a defiant world without men.  There is the tradition on my island (north Adriatic Sea), that most people decide while alive, which photo will represent them on their grave after they die. A visual that the family will be obliged to look at as long as they live – often a portrait that will silently judge you by the rest of your own days.  After my beloved grandmother Valerija died, I became obsessed with these visuals and their silent narratives.  So, with this film I question: “How does it feel to have a family tree consisting only of women? What do our ancestress’ whisper from their silent portraits?” The story takes us on a journey following my mother and me, traveling from the mainland to the island graveyard, to visit our Valerija. (Tradition of visiting the graveyard is very strong on the Adriatic). As we reach the graveyard, we are entering a specific world of strict and perfectionist grave maintenance rituals.   With Valerija as a conceptual lead, I’m telling the story of all these women, the hard lives they had and the multigenerational guilt that is inherited and transferred to each new generation. Focusing on showing their tactile world of scarce words and „living by doing“. By letting their narratives go through me, as my body acts as a white canvas. Through this participatory process, I’m consciously eliminating the distance between myself and all those women who are gone, generating our intimate encounter.

Um homem vestido de azul espera, morto de sede, numa sala mal ventilada. A chegada de um homem vestido de vermelho arrastando uma bela máquina de venda de garrafas de água desencadeia um conflito, culminando numa guerra épica entre os dois exércitos, um vermelho e um azul.

A man dressed in blue waits, thirsty, in a poorly ventilated room. The arrival of a man dressed in red pulling a beautiful water bottle dispenser causes a conflict between the two, culminating in an epic war between a red and a blue army.
