Nas montanhas francesas do Jura, nos finais de uma Idade Média fictícia, Else é fitoterapeuta e parteira. Certo dia, ela e Nicole, a sua jovem aprendiz, são interrompidas nas suas consultas diárias: um forasteiro montado a cavalo exige reunir todas as mulheres da aldeia na pequena igreja.

In the French Jura mountains, at the end of a fictitious Middle Ages, Else is an herbalist and a midwife. She and her young apprentice Nicole are disturbed during their daily practice: a stranger riding a horse demands all the women of the village to gather in the village’s small church.

Nota da Realizadora Director’s Statement
In France, the very first stages of the witch hunt took place exactly where I grew up. These forests where herbalists were harvesting plants, these roman chapels: I deeply know them. Their image is already printed in me and I can stage many ghosts among them. On these powerful scenes, I have dreamt ofvsisters from another age, a midwife and her apprentice in particular: a woman and the young one who is coming up in front of the power of a deadly tale. Both of them were drawn with a high sense of purity, and I have kept on making their contemporary aspect resonate in each shot.

1966: a França lança a sua nova base nuclear no atol de Moruroa, ao largo do Taiti. Num cruzamento dos arquivos filmados em Super 8 por membros da Marinha Francesa com o texto da autora taitiana Chantal Spitz, extraído do seu livro “A Ilha dos Sonhos Despedaçados”, Aldébaran relembra a história nuclear entre o governo francês e a Polinésia.

The different lines of demarcation of the Treaty of Tordesillas are traced on the female body, questioning the notion of Land and Possession, both in the European invasion and in the structural logic of patriarchy: “How can a territory / body be divided, owned and named before be found? ”

Nota da Realizadora Director’s Statement
How can I do a film in a place where I consider myself an outsider,  Where I don’t belong.  I always had this dilemma of not belonging, yet in Paris I am certain and aware of it.  I find myself with 19 people from a “third world”, in a summer school in Paris and each day someone is dedicating to us what cinema should be.  And I have so many questions, regarding our presence in here,  In a sudden way, it becomes so political,  So, I knew that I should start with what I know best, talking to others and letting my questions be heard.  I knew that I wanted to archive in a film those friends I met, those different approaches to cinema, those different ways to live.  I had no idea, how it’s going to end, The film.  But I knew that everything was going to lead me to my home.

Serigne Mbayé arrived in Spain in a boat from Senegal. After 15 years of anti-racist struggle in Madrid, today, converted into a politician, he is determined to confront the European Union. His mission: to hold Brussels as responsible for his migration and that of thousands of his compatriots.

Zoe, Iris e Clio são três irmãs, mas uma delas será morta em breve…

In a dystopian Rome, a law is enforced which doesn’t allow immigrant families to have more than three children. If a fourth child is expected, he or she must be born, however, one of the siblings must be killed, giving the females priority for sacrifice. Zoe, Iris and Clio are three sisters, but one of them will soon be killed…

Samantha e David estão no carro a olhar para o mar. Vão espalhar as cinzas da mãe na praia em que passaram a infância, mas nada sai como planearam. Os dois irmãos enfrentarão as suas respectivas verdades sobre a figura materna. Uma história sobre um ritual fracassado, que nos fala da diferença entre o que imaginamos e o que realmente acontece.

Samantha and David are in the car looking at the sea. They are about to scatter their mother’s ashes on the beach of their childhood, but nothing goes as planned. The sister and brother will face their respective truths about their mother. A story about a failed ritual that shows the difference between what we imagine and what actually happens.

Numa tarde quente de agosto, a família reunida à mesa recorda o Tio Botão: a Guerra Colonial, a emigração para França, onde viveu e trabalhou trinta anos como homem do lixo. As memórias de cada um cruzam-se para contar a história de um homem que viveu uma vida difícil através do humor e da fantasia, como quando regressou a Belmonte, numa carrinha cheia de lixo, transformada num verdadeiro tesouro.

On a hot August afternoon, the family gathered at the table to remember uncle Botão: the Colonial War, emigration to France, where he lived and worked for thirty years as a garbage man. Memories of each family member intertwine to tell the story of a man who lived a hard life through humour and fantasy, like when he returned to Belmonte, in a van full of trash, turned into a real treasure.
